This presentation will teach newer communications professionals how to find their voice and take control of their career path, Those who manage and mentor young professionals will learn how to create an ideal environment for them to thrive. The presentation is designed for Millennials and newer professionals entering or re-entering the workforce, and those who manage or mentor them.
About Kara Luzik Canale:
Kara Luzik Canale is the Vice President of Chamber Operations for the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and CREDC. Kara is responsible for implementing and developing components of the Chamber & CREDC'sStrategic Plan and oversight of specific areas of operation including membership, events, business diversity and communications.
Kara comes to the Chamber & CREDC following nearly a decade in strategic communications agencies, including La Torre Communications. A professional problem solver, she's applied her skills to organizations ranging from regional non-profits to Fortune 500 companies. She played key roles in opening a casino resort, building a major highway interchange and introducing innovatin=ve health care programs. A lifelong resident of Central PA, she has developed internship and mentorship programs to strengthen the region's workforce.
Kara sits on the board of directors for Harrisburg Young Professionals. She was named a top "Forty Under 40" professional by Central Penn Business Journal; "Foundation's Finest" by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Central PA Chapter ; and Young Public Relations Professional of the Year by PRSA, Central PA.
She graduated summa cum laude from Elizabethtown College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in corporate communications and a minor in political science.

Area communicators and marketers networked with fellow professionals at this year’s Joint Holiday Social, held at The Coliseum in Camp Hill.
Members of IABC Harrisburg (International Association of Business Communicators, Harrisburg chapter), PRSA Central PA (Public Relations Society of America, Central PA Chapter) and the Pennsylvania Public Relations Society, gathered for an evening of networking, socializing, food, drinks, bowling and arcade games. Additionally, attendees brought in donations for the Interfaith Shelter for Homeless Families in Dauphin County.

Live video streaming and podcasts are engaging ways to connect with your organization’s followers and grow your audience. Scott Gilbert, public relations and multimedia team lead at Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine, shares how he uses live Facebook videos and podcasts to present subject matter with immediacy and drive interaction through comments and questions.
About Scott Gilbert:
Scott Gilbert joined Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine in 2010 as a media relations specialist and became the public relations and multimedia team lead in October 2017. Prior to that, he worked in broadcast journalism for 14 years. Scott served as multimedia news director at WITF-FM, the NPR affiliate in Harrisburg; an editor and anchor at Associated Press Radio in Washington, DC; and program director at Sunbury Broadcasting Corporation in Sunbury, Pa.
Scott and his team at WITF were honored with several Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association. His radio career also includes stints as morning show host on a rock station in Virginia and promotions director at WINK 104. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.

Angela King-Sweigart is a lieutenant colonel and the state public affairs officer for the Pennsylvania National Guard.
At the Pennsylvania National Guard, Angela is responsible for overseeing both a full-time staff and assisting public affairs throughout the commonwealth in subordinate organizations. She provides advice and counsel on internal and external communications, as well as civic engagement.
In addition to her managerial responsibilities, she continues to work at the tactical level generating and editing content for the organization, including photos, news stories, news releases and social media posts, and answering media inquiries.
Angela is the recording secretary of her local Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter and second vice president of Central Pennsylvania Thin Blue Line Families. She has volunteered both her writing skills and web design experiences for these organizations.
She holds several degrees and certifications and enjoys being a lifelong learner. Her degrees include a bachelor of arts in communication, a bachelor of science in biotechnology, an associate degree in accounting, as well as a variety of military courses related to public relations. Angela also has a certificate in interior design--a hobby of hers, along with reading,m working out and traveling.
Angela has been fortunate to have worked internationally with her position. Most recently, she did public relations in Germany in June 2017. She and her husband, Nelson, have an 8-and-1/2 year-old daughter, Samantha.
Angela joined IABC Harrisburg in November 2017. "I find the networking and training opportunities very valuable,” she said. "I enjoy all of the online seminars and have attended two professional development meetings so far."
